July Blogging Challenge - HPB Shopping Trip

One of my favorite things to do with hubby is go on a mini-roadtrip and see what we can find.  If there is a town within a couple of hours of where we live, we will take a Saturday trip just to troll around.  Our favorite stores are used books stores, pawn shops, and antique malls.  The best part of those stores is that each one is unique and you never know what you'll find!

Today we decided to drive to the "big city", which is about 2 hours from our house.  One of the main reasons to visit the "City" is that they have 3 Half Price Books (HPB).  If you've never gone to an HPB and you are a book fanatic, then I urge you to find the nearest one and go.  Hubby and I have been known to drive around the Dallas/Forth Worth metroplex just to visit every HPB we could find!

The best part of HPB is that they are very nice, clean, well lit, well stocked, well priced and they change out their inventory on a regular basis.  I particularly love them because they have a high quality Education section, which is not common with most used book stores.  Today I was specifically looking for things to help me with student engagement strategies and differentiation as those have been the topics on my mind this summer.  Here's what I ended up with:

(Please forgive my legs.. I took the pic on my lap on the way home!)

The top book was the most expensive one at $7.00, the rest were under $5 each.  The "Differentiating Textbooks" looks really good as it is full of reading strategies.  :)

Now, please excuse me - I have some reading to do! :)

What's on YOUR reading list?

  1. I have never heard of HPB - I would be in heaven! I can't wait to hear the highlights of the top and bottom books.

  2. What a great place! I hate the ed selection at Barnes and Noble. I usually end up getting everything on Amazon. My very best find though was a place in Baltimore called The Book Thing. www.bookthing.org Everything is FREE!
